Removed all the Dash to have LEDs Fitted

We took all the instuments out as well as the dash board, window switches, key switch and pods. They are being sent to a member on the website. They will have blue LEDs fitted as well as new white dials, a carbon backing and chrome bezel rings. I have had the bits out the car for sometime but just have not got around to sending them yet!. Note the lush new MOMO steering wheel, with NOS buttons it was expensive but I only plan to do this car once.

New Recaros Arrived!!!

What can I say, they are a lovely set of new seats to go in the car, I went for black and black as I think that I want a quality interior that does not look tacky. Its very easy to go to far on interiors but quality speaks for itself. They took about three or four weeks to arrive and cost around £1400 with the brackets but im really pleased with them. I plan to get the rest of the car trimmed to match in black and dark grey. Here are the recaro brackets, they are easy to fit and good quality

Painting headlight inserts silver

Now getting the damn thigs out is troubling enough but if you are in the position of being able to get them out then a nice little mod to do is paint the plastic light inserts silver.  To do this you need to remove all the clips and then to get the actual glass out you will need to get a heat gun and gently warm it. Slowly work your way around the whole lense until it comes off, if you dont use enough heat or too much you will break it. Once you have them apart simply wet flat the insides with some 1200 wet and dry and then paint them. After a dissapointing result with silver spray I then thought I would try a chrome paint, this prooved to be a far brighter colour and I was pleased with the result. Here is a picture of one of the completed lights

Removal of everything for the respray

We spent two solid days removing absolutely everything we could before the car went to the paintshop (banburys) for its super new paint job.  We removed everthing possible electrical wise under the bonett, all the air conditioning pipes, oil pipes, brackets, and we ground off all the mounting points for the fuse box and power steering pump as we planned to relocate them. While we were at it we decided to remove the HICAS system to save room and replace it with a fixed bracket at the rear. We stripped all the pipes out the whole length of the car and had a big pile of bits after so there was definately some weight savings here.

Taking the engine apart for chroming and polishing.

After we removed the engine it was time to start taking it all apart so we could polish and chrome as many parts as possible. I wanted to have the plenham polished as well as the rocker box covers. In addition I wanted every possible engine bracket, nut, bolt, washer, as well as all the door latches and engine catches.

New Brakes on order

Today I ordered a set of brakes and some super suspension for our build. I wanted a big brake kit for our build from importpartspro it is made by Stop Tech. Now these little babies should mean that we dont need to pack a parachute in the back, in a hurry. Why these Brakes? Read the rest of this entry »
